Agterop Papawerbeweging staan 2 Julie 1979. Dit was 'n Maandag, die tweede dag van my sonder-werk-situasie. Die Nasionale Filmraad, waar ek kunstenaar was, word deur die regering gesluit. Toe die eerste geluide van 'n moontlike sluiting aangekondig is - in Januarie 1978 - sê Susan dat ek voltyds moet skilder, sy sou aanhou werk. Ek kon sommer huisman ook wees!
On the back of Poppies in the wind is written 2 July 1979. It was a Monday, my second day without a job. The National Film Board where I worked as an artist was closed down by the government. When the first hints of a possible closure were announced - in January 1978 - Susan declared that I should paint full time, she would continue to work. I could become a house-husband!
